Newcastle United player ratings gallery: ‘Workhorse’ 9/10 but one 6/10 in Leicester City win
Newcastle United player ratings from the 2-0 win over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.
Newcastle United progressed into the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup with a 2-0 victory over Leicester City at St James’ Park.
Dan Burn opened the scoring on the hour-mark - his first goal for his boyhood club - before Joelinton made it 2-0 12 minutes later.
And with that, Eddie Howe’s side secured the club’s first semi-final in 18 years, and the first in the League Cup since 1976.
Our writer Jordan Cronin was at St James’ Park - and here’s how he rated each Newcastle United player:

1. Nick Pope - 7
Routine save to deny Ayoze Perez. Then quick off his line to prevent Patson Daka from going one-v-one. Recorded a seventh consecutive clean sheet without having to do much.

2. Kieran Trippier - 8
Linked up brilliantly with Almiron. Dangerous from both open play and set pieces. Excellent bit of defending in the first half to prevent Barnes tapping home Daka’s cross.

3. Fabian Schar - 7
Shaky in the first half but miles better in the second. Strong in the air, bar one moment in the final quarter of an hour, and comfortable in possession.

4. Sven Botman - 7
Quietly solid. Read the game well, although like Schar, had one moment in the closing stages where Leicester got in behind.
