Newcastle United player ratings: Two stars get 7/10 & plenty of 6s in Man United final defeat
Newcastle United player ratings from the Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester United.
Newcastle United were loud and proud at Wembley - but the long wait for a first trophy since 1969 goes on.
Manchester United grabbed the lead on 33 minutes when Luke Shaw’s out-swinging free-kick was headed home by Casemiro. VAR checked for a possible offside for the goal was given.
Not long after, it was 2-0. Rashford was played into the box by Wout Weghorst and his shot deflected off Sven Botman and over Karius.

2. Loris Karius - 6
Pulled eye-catching saves to deny Weghorst and Rashford. Debate will be had over whether or not he could do better for both Man United’s goals.
3. Kieran Trippier - 6
Blew hot and cold with his deliveries. Gave away a cheap free-kick that led to Casemiro’s goal from Shaw’s delivery.
4. Fabian Schar - 6
Was beaten in the air by Casemiro for the opener. Battled on after an early clash of heads with Martinez when he headed over a decent effort.
