Newcastle United player ratings: 'Unplayable' 9/10 & as 5/10 'struggles' in 2-0 Hull City win

Newcastle United player ratings: How Alexander Isak, Joelinton, Lewis Hall, Harvey Barnes & others fared in 2-0 win at Hull City.

Newcastle United recorded a 2-0 victory over Championship side Hull City following first-half goals from Alexander Isak and Jacob Murphy.

With 19 players missing for the visit to the MKM Stadium, Eddie Howe named the most senior starting XI available to him with the exception of Jamie Miley, who made his full Newcastle debut. Jamal Lewis also lined up at left-back, despite the strong chance of him leaving again this summer.

Meanwhile, the bench consisted of academy players, bar goalkeepers Odysseas Vlachodimos and John Ruddy.

Newcastle took the lead in the 32nd minute as Jacob Murphy’s clipped cross was poked home by Alexander Isak. Murphy then turned goalscorer when his cross towards Harvey Barnes rolled into the bottom left corner.

Howe began to make changes on the hour-mark. Academy duo Alfie Harrison and Trevan Sanusi were given their debuts, while Jay Turner-Cooke and Ben Parkinson replaced Harvey Barnes, Isak, Joelinton and Tino Livramento.

With just over 15 minutes remaining, Howe then introduced new signing Vlachodimos while Anthony Munda and Johnny Emerson replaced Lewis and Murphy.
