Newcastle United leapfrogged Manchester United into third in the Premier League table with a 2-0 win over Erik ten Hag’s side at St James’ Park.
While the possession was shared, Newcastle created 11 first-half chances, with Joe Willock missing two big chances. Sean Longstaff and Alexander Isak also went close.
Willock, however, redeemed himself midway through the second-half when he headed home Allan Saint-Maximin’s header back across goal.
Substitute Callum Wilson then made it 2-0 in the 88th minute when he headed home Kieran Trippier’s cross.
That’s now three wins in a row for Eddie Howe’s side, who have their eyes firmly on Champions League qualification.

2. Nick Pope - 6
Didn’t have to make a save until the 56th minute on quiet afternoon.
3. Kieran Trippier - 8
Nullified the threat of the in-form Rashford. Got forward well and delivered some dangerous corners. Assisted Wilson’s late goal.
4. Fabian Schar - 7
Solid defensive display. Wasn’t too far away from scoring a trademark Schar goal before hitting the post with a brave header.
