Newcastle United edged out Championship side Millwall 1-0 to advance into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
Matthias Jaissle made three changes from Saturday’s 2-2 draw at home to Bournemouth in the Premier League as Fabian Schar, Jacob Ramsey and Jacob Murphy came in for Malick Thiaw, Lewis Miley and Anthony Elanga.
The Magpies had 14 efforts at goal in the first half but only registered one on target as Joe Willock stung the palms of former Gateshead loanee Filip Marschall.
It would be Willock who would send United into the next round when he got on the end of Lewis Hall’s low cross in the 81st minute.

2. Lukas Hornicek - 6
Didn’t really have a save to make but dealt well with the balls that came into his box. His kicking wasn’t great at times, mind. | AFP via Getty Images

3. Amar Dedic - 6
Didn’t quite link up with Jacob Murphy like he has done with Anthony Elanga except one occasion early on. Brought off at half-time to give him a well-earned rest. | Getty Images

4. Fabian Schar - 7
A first competitive appearance since January. His crossfield passes were arguably one of Newcastle’s biggest threats. | Getty Images
