Newcastle United have ‘renewed’ their interest in signing Nottingham Forest playmaker Morgan Gibbs-White this summer, according to a report by Football Insider. Eddie Howe is apparently ‘ready’ to lure the 24-year-old up to the North East this summer to bolster his ranks.

Gibbs-White, who is an ex-England youth international, is also believed to be wanted by fellow Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the next transfer window. His current club are fighting to avoid relegation to the Championship under the guidance of Nuno Espirito Santo.

Newcastle could see the Stafford-born man as someone to inject more quality into their squad ahead of the next campaign. They may well be in a European competition again next term and could do with some more depth to ensure they can deal with the increased quantity of fixtures that would come their way.

Nottingham Forest landed Gibbs-White back in 2022 after their promotion to the top flight under former boss Steve Cooper. He has since become one of their most prized assets and has scored 11 goals in 75 games.

He rose up through the academy ranks at Wolves and played 88 times for their first-team as a youngster, as well as having loan spells away from the Midlands at Swansea City and Sheffield United in the second tier to get some experience under his belt. The latter reached the play-offs during his time at Bramall Lane.

Newcastle’s links to Gibbs-White continue to bubble away in the background and there is no doubt that he would be an eye-catching acquisition if they were able to get a deal over the line in the near future. However, there would be significant competition for his services, particularly from Spurs.

The Toon Army beat Ange Postecoglou’s men 4-0 in their last outing and are now unbeaten in their last four league outings. Next up is an away trip to Crystal Palace as they look to keep their momentum going.
