Newcastle United are reportedly set to recall Jamie Miley from his loan spell at Newport County with a view to selling him this month.

The 20-year-old joined the League Two outfit in the summer but has been restricted to just eight appearances in total because of injury. He last started a game in November but has come off the bench in the last three matches.

Newcastle have an option to recall the midfielder this month and according to Pete O’Rourke, a number of League One and League Two clubs are monitoring his situation in what could lead to him leaving St James’ Park permanently.

Miley, older brother to Lewis, joined the Magpies’ academy in 2016. He progressed through the age groups and has featured for the first-team in several friendlies.

The player was part of Eddie Howe’s squad in pre-season, travelling to both Germany and Tokyo before making his full St James’ Park debut in a 4-0 win over La Liga side Girona.

Speaking after that game, Howe said: “It’s a lazy comparison but it was a very Lewy Miley-type performance and I mean that as a massive compliment because he was very composed on the ball and very diligent off the ball, I thought he really helped us.

“Good tactically which isn’t easy for someone so young to come in and deliver that. As always with Jamie, he’s very level-headed and calm. That will have been a big moment in his career and I was delighted with how he did.”
