Newcastle United are reportedly ready to offer a record deal to Brazilian star Bruno Guimaraes to warn off interest from the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City.

Reports in Brazil have suggested the Magpies are preparing to offer the midfielder a new deal that would make him the highest paid player in their history.  Despite being under contract until the summer of 2026 after making a £38m move to Tyneside last January, Bruno is set to be offered a chance to commit his long-term future at St James Park.

The former Lyon star has attracted the attention of a number of big-name clubs after making an impressive start to life on Tyneside, with Spanish giants Real Madrid and Premier League champions Manchester City both mentioned as potential suitors in the media.

Despite those links, Bruno spoke recently of his belief in the ambitious plans at Newcastle and expressed his desire to become ‘a legend’ with the club.  He told The Mirror: “I never doubted the project since the beginning, I believe it.  I always want to play in the Premier League.  When I had this opportunity, I’m just enjoying playing here, I think the crowd love me and they love the crowd and I feel really at home here in the energy.

“We are doing things very well. It is the beginning of the project. This will be one of the best projects in the world, I believe this. It is just the beginning.  I want to keep going and to be a legend here, could be great.”

Bruno has a positive relationship with United manager Eddie Howe, who spoke recently of his admiration for the way the Brazil international has settled into life in the Premier League.

He said: “He’s fitted in so well and he’s epitomised the team spirit and the drive that we need to be successful and I think the supporters have seen that and taken to him from day one. Off the pitch, absolutely brilliant. But on the pitch he speaks for himself. I don’t think I have to really comment too much on his performances.”

The midfielder now looks set to be offered that opportunity with Goal Brazil reporting the Magpies hierarchy will meet with Bruno’s representatives ‘in the coming days’ and are prepared to extend his current deal by a year and offer the midfielder a weekly wage of around £200,000-a-week, a figure that would make him the highest paid player in the club’s history.
