Newcastle United could be set to get their hands on a promising young talent as they continue to build for a bright future.

The Magpies have spent big over the last year or so as they look to become a force under their new owners, but it’s not just big-profile players they are after. Newcastle will be hoping to build for the future by adding talented youngsters to their ranks, and that will become increasingly important as they spend close to their Financial Fair Play limit, something that is not likely to change until revenues begin to grow, be it through increased marketing or success on the pitch.

The latest talent being eyed, according to Claret and Hugh, is West Ham United’s Harrison Ashby, who is out of contract in the summer. Notably, Ashby also has the same agent as Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, and it looks as though the Magpies could be set to land the young right-back.

The report claims the right-back could head to Newcastle in either January or the end of the season, and Newcastle World understands Ashby may well be a target. A January signing would require Newcastle to pay a transfer fee, but the Magpies could land him for free next summer.

Ashby is 21 years of age, so either way, West Ham would be due some cash due to the defender being a product of their academy, but it would be a minimal fee in the grand scheme of things, especially given how highly Ashby is rated. The youngster has made one Premier League appearance for the Hammers, and he could add depth to Newcastle’s squad, backing up Kieran Trippier long term.

The signing could be some deal for Newcastle, while it would be a crushing blow for West Ham, who see Ashby as one of their brightest talents.
