Newcastle United sign Arsenal and Liverpool target who almost beat Jude Bellingham record

Newcastle United have saw off competition from the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool for Birmingham City youngster Trevan Sanusi.

Newcastle United have beaten a number of Premier League clubs to the signature of Birmingham City starlet Trevan Sanusi.

The winger, who only turned 16 in April, trained with the Blues’ first team during parts of last season and was included in the travelling squad for an away Championship fixture at Blackpool.

Had he made his debut then Sanusi would have broken Jude Bellingham’s record as Birmingham’s youngster-ever player.

Sanusi, an England under-16s international, was a regular at under-21s level last term, which saw several English top-flight clubs send scouts to watch him.

Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur were among the clubs to show interest but NewcastleWorld understands Newcastle have won the race for his signature.

Sanusi teased a switch to St James’ Park last week when Leo Shahar bid farewell to Wolverhampton Wanderers ahead of his move. Replying to the Instagram post, Sanusi said: “Linkup soon...”

Newcastle have significantly bolstered its academy ranks over the summer by signing exciting talent for all age groups.

On deadline day, United announced the arrival of Norwegian youth international Travis Hernes from League One side Shrewsbury Town as well as recently completing the signing of Cathal Heffernan from AC Milan.

United have also recruited the likes of Sam Pinnington from Luton Town, Sam Alabi from Oldham Athletic, Kacey Wooster from Southend United, and Michael Mills from Port Vale.
