Jacob Murphy has shared an update on his injury progress after undergoing surgery on his shoulder.

The Newcastle United winger suffered a repeat dislocated shoulder injury against Arsenal after leaving the pitch for the same reason 10 days earlier against Borussia Dortmund at home.

It's expected the 28-year-old will be out-of-action until early 2024 however it looks like he is already back in the gym working towards full fitness.

Posting to social media, Murphy posted two videos of him working up a sweat. In the first he's doing some weighted lunges with the caption 'stepping it up,' complete with a bionic arm emoji.

The emoji is one he's used before. After the Arsenal match the footballer posted to Instagram with the caption: “Tonight was a risk but a risk I felt was worth taking to be out there and fight with my team! 3 big points 🦾 @nufc 🖤🤍”

No doubt Murphy is looking to come back stronger and better than ever.

He also posted a video of him on the bike which he lovingly called 'juicy work.'

After Murphy left the pitch with the same injury for the second time in two weeks, Eddie Howe confirmed the risk the pair had made in putting him back out there.

“Jacob came to see me and we had various discussions with the medical team,” said Howe. “We felt it was a risk putting him back on the pitch but it was a risk he and the medical team were prepared to take.

“We knew he could potentially do it again so he will now definitely need an operation. But there was a chance also he could get through it and continue to fit and play for us. It’s a huge blow. I’m not sure but it’ll probably be three months.”

The surgery was non-invasive, as seen the small plaster on his left shoulder.

Murphy is part of a long list of Newcastle United players set to miss out on Saturday's game (November 25) against Chelsea.

Dan Burn, Callum WilsonElliot Anderson, Matt Targett, Sven Botman and Harvey Barnes are all out for extended spells due to injury.
