Joelinton has been charged with drink driving after being stopped by Northumbria Police in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Newcastle United star Joelinton has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after being pulled over in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The 26-year-old, of Ponteland, was stopped by Northumbria Police at about 1:20 am on Thursday, January 12 and has now been charged with driving while above the prescribed limit for alcohol.

Joelinton is due to appear in court in Newcastle on Thursday, January 26.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 1:20 am today (Thursday), officers pulled over a vehicle in the Ponteland Road area of Newcastle and arrested the occupant.

“Joelinton Cassio, 26, of Ponteland, has since been charged with driving whilst above the prescribed limit for alcohol. He is due to appear before magistrates in Newcastle on January 26.”

That court date will fall in two days after Newcastle United's Carabao Cup visit to Southampton on Tuesday, January 24.
