It's a huge night for Newcastle United and Tyneside as the Champions League returns to the North East in style with French giants Paris Saint-Germain lining up at St James' Park. Kylian Mbappe and co. are set to be a real challenge for Eddie Howe's side but a summer of recruitment and purple patch of form are reasons to be confident. Ahead of kick-off, NewcastleWorld has updates on the future of a young Magpies player on the international stage and transfer news.

Elliot Anderson needs ‘time and space’ for huge decision

Breakthrough Newcastle United star Elliot Anderson needs 'time and space' to decide on his international future, says Scotland boss Steve Clarke. The 20-year-old has been a revelation for the Magpies this season and is English by birth but eligible for Scotland. He was selected by Clarke in September but withdrew from the side amid reports he was having second thoughts over his allegiances.

Anderson was today left out of the Scotland squad for upcoming matches with Spain and France. Clarke reasoned: “Elliot is a young man making his way in the game. He has a big decision to make international-wise. Let’s just give the boy a little time and space to make that decision. He left the last camp and we haven’t spoken since. I haven’t picked him for this camp. I will move on and work with the players I have got.”

Newcastle United transfer link being monitored in Argentina

Reported Newcastle United interest in Southampton midfielder Carlos Alcaraz is being closely monitored in Argentina as a new clause in the 20-year-old's contract emerges. The Magpies have been linked with a move for the star, who joined Southampton in January but has failed to keep his status as a regular in the Championship this term. Despite a lack of minutes, Alcaraz continues to attract interest from the Premier League.

Racing de Alma now reports that any deal, potentially involving the Magpies, would be a huge benefit to Alcaraz's first club Racing de Alma. It is believed the Argentinian club are to receive 15% of any sell-on price for the midfielder. Southampton are believed to want £26 million for Alcaraz's services, to turn a profit on the £12 million they forked out nearly a year ago. Brighton are known to have offered £19 million in the summer but the Saints' man's future remains undecided.
