Newcastle United are likely to be without Joelinton for the next six matches after the midfielder sustained a knee injury on international duty with Brazil.
The 27-year-old missed Saturday evening’s 1-0 victory over Brentford, a result that saw Eddie Howe’s side return to winning ways after three straight defeats.

The only disappointment to emerge ahead of Tuesday’s eagerly-anticipated Champions League clash against AC Milan is the news of Joelinton’s injury blow.

What’s Joelinton’s injury?
The Brazilian first picked up his knee injury during last month’s 2-1 defeat to 10-man Liverpool at St James’ Park.
He was a doubt for the visit to Brighton and Hove Albion six days later but passed himself fit on the eve of the fixture. However, Joelinton lasted just 58 minutes at the Amex Stadium and Howe revealed after the game he “wasn’t at a 100 per-cent”.
What’s Eddie Howe said?
Despite Howe’s admission, Joelinton linked up with the Brazil squad alongside teammate Bruno Guimaraes.

He featured as a substitute in wins over Bolivia and Peru but a recurrence of his knee injury in the latter game ruled him out of Newcastle’s win over Brentford.
Confirming the severity, Howe told reporters: “Joe had a recurrence of his knee injury playing for Brazil in the second game so he won’t be with us for a few weeks.”
