Newcastle United Women have confirmed Elysia Boddy as their second summer signing.

Earlier today, the Lady Magpies announced the arrival of Emma Kelly, who is fresh from captaining Sunderland in the Women’s Championship last season. Similar to Kelly, Boddy has dropped down a division to join Newcastle ahead of their National League Northern Premier Division campaign.

Becky Langley, manager of NUFC Women, said: “From our first conversation, I knew Elysia was perfectly suited for Newcastle United. She’s very focused, very professional and driven to take this club to the WSL. We instantly clicked, so I’m excited to work with Elysia.”

Boddy, an attacking midfielder, made 11 appearances for Bristol City Women as they achieved promotion to the Super League last time out. The 19-year-old, who began her career at Middlesbrough, has already had a six-month spell in the Women’s top-flight with Leicester City.

She has also represented England from under-15s to under-19s level and scored against Finland on her under-19s debut in February 2022.

Newcastle United Women switched from part-time to full-time last month which has allowed Langley to attract higher calibre players.

“This is a historic moment for our Newcastle United family and for the women’s game regionally, nationally and beyond,” said CEO Darren Eales last month.

“Newcastle United Women is a hugely important part of our vision for the club, and this is the right step at the right time as we strive for sustainable success.

“I’d like to thank our owners for their incredible support and congratulate Su, Becky and all the players and staff for their achievements so far. We look forward to the exciting journey ahead.”

NewcastleWorld understands former Sunderland forward Tyler Dodds is set to be unveiled alongside Hannah Greenwood and Bridget Galloway from Durham Women.
