Newcastle United stadium St James' Park will miss out on a visit from US pop star Taylor Swift on her international Eras Tour dates but the singer will stop off at the home of Liverpool.

Taylor Swift will play two nights at Anfield on June 14 and June 15 next year when she visits the United Kingdom following a run of sold-out shows in the United States this year.

St James' Park had been touted as a potential venue for the star after playing host to over 100,000 people across a weekend of Sam Fender shows earlier this month but Swift will not visit the North East on her tour.

The Stadium of Light in Sunderland has also been popular with the world's biggest stars in recent years with Elton John, Beyonce and P!nk all performing at the home of the Black Cats in recent times.

As well as Anfield, Swift will visit the BT Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh, the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wembley Stadium in London and the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

Writing on Twitter, Swift said: "EXCUSE ME HI I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY. I can’t wait to see so many of you on The Eras Tour next year at these new international dates!"

After announcing the dates today, Swift caused websites with information on shows and ticket sales to crash as excitement for the Grammy Award winner's visit peaked.

Before visiting the UK the pop star will kick off the European leg of the tour in Paris before moving on to Stockholm, Lisbon, Madrid and Lyon.

After finishing up in the UK, Swift will then visit Amsterdam, Zurich, Milan, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Munich, Warsaw and Vienna.

The European tour will then return to Wembley Stadium for an extra two nights, making it four shows in total that the star will perform at the UK home of football.

Tickets for the Taylor Swift Eras Tour in Europe go on sale between July 18 and July 20.
