‘In contact’ - Fabrizio Romano claims Newcastle United want £30m star who Sunderland like
Roma value playmaker Matias Soule at £35million as Newcastle United weigh up their transfer options.
Newcastle United are reportedly in contact with Roma for playmaker Matias Soule.
It is no secret that the Magpies will actively pursue a new arrival in the last few days of the window. Nico Gonzalez - the Bruno Guimaraes replacement - was the priority a week ago.
Now he has arrived, attention has turned to signing a difference-maker in the final third. Names shortlisted in recent days include Matias Fernandez-Pardo and Bilal E Khannouss.
Newcastle United make Matias Soule contact
Via his YouTube channel, Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano now claims Newcastle are interested in Soule. An agreement is not thought to be close but early contact has been made about a potential move.
A youth international for Argentina, Soule registered 15 goal contributions in all competitions last season. The 23-year-old is predominantly an attacking midfielder but can also operate on the right flank.
Roma value him at around £35million - which fits Newcastle’s price tag. Fulham and bitter rivals Sunderland have been linked with a potential move this summer.
Matthias Jaissle on Newcastle United transfers
When asked if a good start to the season could persuade Newcastle not to enter the market, Matthias Jaissle said: "That's a good question. There's always pros and cons. We know our needs. Ross Wilson is doing an amazing job.
“We have a couple of days left and will not panic and do something crazy without everyone believing it's the right decision. That's the most important thing, on a management and leadership level, that we're all aligned.”
