Newcastle United star reacts to Everton boos with brutally honest admission - 'doesn't make it easy'

Newcastle United captain Dan Burn reacts to the 1-0 defeat against Everton at St James’ Park.

Newcastle United were booed off at St James’ Park after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Everton.

The Magpies lost 3-1 to the Toffees in the Carabao Cup last 16 on Thursday and were beaten again tonight, with Thierno Barry scoring the only goal of the game in the 49th minute.

Matthias Jaissle’s side have now won just two of their last seven matches in all competitions, with tonight’s result marking back-to-back home defeats.

Newcastle United captain Dan Burn reacts to Everton defeat

Dan Burn has admitted confidence is low in the dressing room and, while insisting he understands the supporters’ frustrations, said that the atmosphere at St James’ Park isn’t making things easier.

"Disappointed, frustrated,” Burn said after the game. “Much of the same in the last few games - between the boxes we do OK, but we're not ruthless enough going forward or defending our own box.

"When you're not winning games, there's always a lack of confidence. The fans weren't happy. They have shown that at half-time and full-time. That doesn't make it easy to build confidence when you're in that atmosphere.

"But I've been a fan, so I understand the frustrations when they're not getting what they're expecting.

“That wasn't a Newcastle performance like we've expected in the last three or four years, so I can completely understand the frustrations. It doesn't make it easier for us as players. You can sense that nervousness in the ground."

Newcastle remain 13th in the Premier League, four points clear of the relegation zone, with a trip to Fulham next up on Saturday.

Following the international break, Jaissle’s side face a challenging run of fixtures against Arsenal, Brighton & Hove Albion, Manchester United and Sunderland.
