Matthias Jaissle to give Newcastle United contract rebel chance to prove worth after £30m injury blow

Tino Livramento’s injury record at Newcastle United kept potential suitors away during the summer transfer window.

Tino Livramento will be given a chance to showcase his talents to Matthias Jaissle this weekend.

A calf injury in June cruelly sidelined the right-back on the eve of the World Cup. Livramento spent the summer rehabilitating and did not have a pre-season at Newcastle United.

Three substitute appearances have helped the 23-year-old build towards full fitness. A mixed three years on Tyneside has resulted in Livramento developing into an England international despite several injury blows.

Eight setbacks in total have frustrated both the player and supporters - who are fully aware of his potential. Ironically, an injury to summer signing Amar Dedic will likely see Livramento start against Hull City this weekend.

Matthias Jaissle on Amar Dedic

Many expected Dedic to keep Livramento out of the team given his impressive start. However, Jaissle confirmed the Bosnian has aggravated the hamstring problem that almost saw him ruled out at Elland Road.

“It doesn't look that good for the Hull match,” Jaissle said. “Amar will also not be able to play on Saturday, so it's getting shorter and shorter, at least.”

Tino Livramento contract stand-off

Livramento also has less than two years remaining on his Newcastle contract. Sporting director Ross Wilson declared his extension a top priority shortly after arriving a year ago.

There has been no update, with potential suitors put off in the summer window due to his injury record. The defender stayed coy on a possible new contract when asked by NewcastleWorld about his contract last November.

Starting on Saturday, Livramento now has the chance to prove he is worth a big-money deal. More cynical Newcastle fans - possibly scarred by the last 18 months - might suggest he would prefer to put himself in the shop window.
