Newcastle United have been linked to a lot of incoming players for this transfer window but perhaps no name has appeared more in recent days than the Hungarian captain Dominik Szoboszlai.

The midfielder currently plays for Bundesliga side RB Leipzig and this season racked up nine goals and 13 assists in all competitions, his last of his season being a penalty against league winners Bayern Munich.

But this goal hasn’t been attributed to just skill. In fact, the 22-year-old’s goal was attributed to his teammate- or more specifically, his teammate’s food.

Benjamin Hendrichs shared a hilarious video to Instagram of him fuelling Szoboszlai with traditional Ghanaian food- jollof rice. The RB Leipzig full-back filmed himself tucking into a plate of the dish with the caption: ‘Bringing Ghanaian jollof to leipzig,’ before asking the Newcastle United target what he thought.

It wasn’t that simple however. Hendrichs added a bit of Ghanaian culture to his name, calling his teammate ‘Dominik Kwame Szoboszlai’- perhaps a testament to how much he was enjoying the food.

It didn’t stop there either. Hilariously, the caption of the video is: ‘The reason why [Szoboszlai] scored yesterday? Ghanaian jollof.’

With Szoboszlai’s goal scoring secret revealed, Newcastle United have ample time to get provisions ready for him and hopefully he can carry on where he left off. This time in black and white.

The 22-year-old fuelled speculation linking him with Eddie Howe’s side after liking a social media post that said “Newcastle are ONE win away from Champions League qualification”.

And speaking to Index, via SportWitness, and he seems very much open to a move away from Leipzig this summer.

“All options must be considered,” admitted the Hunagry international. “I dreamed of a club for myself at the age of five, another as a teenager, seeing that it is not necessarily impossible to achieve these dreams. If there is interest, I’ll consider it, not because I don’t have a good time at Leipzig, but because I’ve always been interested in challenges.

“On one side of the scale is a good Leipzig, with a manager who trusts me and teammates who accept me and also believe in me. No footballer can wish for more than that. This is quite an extra situation. At the same time, on the other side, there is the question, if I can now take a step towards Europe’s top five or six clubs, should I say no to the challenge? I’ve never been that type! I am in a very good position, as I can play in a fantastic club.

“However, I don’t want 15 years from now to look back on my career as if I didn’t get the most out of it. My entire career so far has been built consciously, always reaching the next level in time, but never to a level that would be too risky to jump. You can fall from high, and it’s rare that someone gets one chance at the highest level of football, let alone two.”
