Newcastle United transfer target pictured having Liverpool medical as six-year contract agreed
Sources in Spain claimed Newcastle United were plotting a move for Mamardashvili prior to his impressive showing for Georgia at Euro 2024. As it happened, the Magpies signed two back-up goalkeepers instead.

United now have five senior goalkeepers on their books, including Nick Pope, Martin Dubrvaka and Mark Gillespie, and Howe answered “possibly” when asked if one could leave before Friday’s deadline.
Dubravka missed Sunday's draw at AFC Bournemouth after suffering concussion in training, but there was no explanation for Vlachodimos' absence, with Ruddy named as back-up to Pope. Tellingly, the latter was also left out of the squad for the opening day win against Southampton.

A departure could see the Magpies recruit a third goalkeeper of the window with Burnley’s James Trafford top of the list having previously had a £16million bid rejected in mid-June.
Mamardashvili, however, is off the market. Fabrizio Romano posted on X: “Giorgi Mamardashvili to Liverpool, deal done with following details. Contract valid for the next six years. €30m fixed fee, €5m easy add-ons. Joining #LFC in July 2025 as planned. 10% future sell-on clause for Valencia. Medical tests taking place today.”
Romano then shared a photo (see aboge) of the 23-year-old undergoing his medical in Valencia, where he will remain on loan before moving to Anfield next year.
