Newcastle United WAG posts cryptic message as transfer saga rumbles on

Newcastle United fans said their farewells to wideman Miguel Almiron at the weekend - but the Paraguayan remains on the Magpies’ books.

He was serenaded by just over 3,000 Geordies down on the south coast, albeit he was a reluctant recipient.

Miguel Almiron had to be driven to the front of the pack of Newcastle United players and staff as the travelling fans sung his name loud and clear.

It was head coach Eddie Howe, in fact, who made sure the player fronted up to those thanking him for his time at the club. It was a nice touch, and one that really underlined the fact, if anyone was in any doubt, that the days are numbered for Miggy.

Social media has been awash with fans either paying tribute to the player himself or criticising some for maybe giving too much praise. While some point to the ‘purple patch’ that helped secure Champions League, or the actual first goal in the competition in two decades against Paris Saint-Germain, others prefer to see the AC Milan miss or the Carabao Cup break opportunity as signs it’s time to move on.

I think, in truth, most fans sit somewhere in-between. They accept the former club record buy was a player who energised a talent-starved team under Rafa Benitez, breathing new life into the XI. Who then gave everything for the team in his next few years as the club fought with relegation, before establishing himself under Eddie Howe as the head coach’s right-hand side man, linking so well with Sean Longstaff and Kieran Trippier. And then, as the team progresses, Almiron has found his impact wane and minutes lessen. So here, we are. A popular player, with his teammates and fans, but an acceptance time moves on. - and so too will Almiron, back to where he came from, Atlanta United.

Social media darlings

One regular theme throughout his time at the club has been the regular postings of all things on the Almiron home life, from his wife, Alexia Notto.

Notto often takes to Instagram to share snaps of the pair together, as well as shots of their son, life back in Paraguay and inspirational messages to her followers on the platform.

And even as the exit door nears, Notto has taken to socials to post a cryptic message. It must be said, it may well have nothing to do with the player - and his family’s - departure from Tyneside.

On her Instagram story, she posted a message in Spanish which reads: “Mi vida esta llena de bendiciones.”

Translated to English, roughly, that means: “My life is full of blessings.”

Will Newcastle United sign anyone in January?

Whether Almiron’s exit will be a blessing for head coach Howe is another thing altogether, with the former Bournemouth boss keen to strengthen, but mindful of the club’s need to raise funds in relation to their PSR headroom.

When the Almiron deal is confirmed, which is expected to be in the next few days, talk will then turn to whether the Magpies will look to add anyone to their squad to replace the player. It seems, at this stage, Howe and Newcastle are keeping their powder dry for the summer, rather than splash out in the winter window.
