Newcastle United and Chelsea are reportedly said to miss out on the signing of Borussia Dortmund’s highly-rated forward Youssoufa Moukoko.

The twice-capped Germany international had been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent days as he enters the final months of his current deal with the Bundesliga giants. Reports earlier this week suggested the Magpies had offered him a lucrative deal to tempt him to Tyneside. Their efforts looked to have been given a boost by Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watze as he placed doubt over Moukoko’s future with his club.

Speaking to Sky Germany on Thursday, he said: “It is legitimate that (Moukoko) is now trying to get a good position for himself. But it is just as legitimate that we have our ideas and if that is not congruent, then the cooperation will just not be continued.

“That is the ultimate consequence, which can also happen. But of course, we hope that he stays with us. I think the whole process is quite normal. The difference is simply that he is only 18 years old and was already at the World Cup. This, of course, makes the whole thing even more public.”

However, there have now been claims Dortmund have continued discussing the 18-year-old’s contract with his representatives and Sky Germany are now reporting a compromise has been reached for the youngster to commit his future to the club.

The Nigerian international has scored 34 goals in 89 appearances since joining the Ligue 1 club from Belgian side KV Kortrijk in October 2020 and is said to have been the subject of interest from Nice and Premier League rivals Southampton and West Ham.

Former Foot365 editor Ignazio Genuardi has now suggested Newcastle are ‘considering making an offer’ for a player said to be valued at around £24.9m by his club.

He tweeted: Besides Nice and #Southampton, West Ham has also positioned itself concretely to snatch the signature of the Nigerian Moffi. Newcastle also considering making an offer. Lorient asks for a minimum of 28-30 M €(bonus included) + % on a possible resale.”
