Newcastle United winger Yankuba Minteh is set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up an injury.

The 19-year-old made the move to Tyneside from Danish side Odense Boldklub for £7million in June before being loaned to Feyenoord for the 2023-24 campaign.

However, his progress is to be impacted with the Dutch champions confirming Minteh will spend “several weeks” out.

A club statement read: “Yankuba Minteh will not be able to play for several weeks. The 19-year-old attacker suffered a muscle injury in the league match against Vitesse last Saturday.

“Minteh had to be substituted fifteen minutes before time due to the injury. The Gambian international, who is on loan from Newcastle United this season, has so far played twelve official matches for Feyenoord in which he scored three times.”

With Newcastle in Champions League action against Borussia Dortmund tonight, Minteh was also due to feature in the competition as Feyenoord host Serie A side Lazio.

The Magpies are keeping close tabs on Minteh.

Asked about the player last month, Eddie Howe said: “He’s started really well, I’m really, really pleased. Whenever a player goes on loan, the expectation is that they learn and develop their game and he’s certainly learning and developing.

“He’s scoring goals playing in a good team in a good league so really pleased.”

Meanwhile, Minteh recently revealed he is unsure if he’ll be part of Howe’s first team plans next summer.

“I was able to sign a contract with Newcastle, but I have never seen the city myself,” said Minteh. “The club immediately indicated that I would go to Feyenoord on loan.

“In Rotterdam I also signed my contract with Newcastle. The club brought all kinds of people over to the Netherlands to ensure that my first weeks went well.

“The rental period is until the end of the season. I hear that there are people who hope that I will stay longer. But that’s looking far ahead.

“It is clear that I like it here. I feel the appreciation of the trainers and supporters. And I feel that I am developing myself under this trainer.”
