Kieran Trippier was the first to arrive from Atletico Madrid and Chris Wood wasn’t far behind the England international.
The signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon was a statement of intent for United given the Brazilian was being tracked by some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
And the club’s winter business was rounded off on deadline day with Matt Targett joining on loan from Aston Villa and Dan Burn a £13m addition from Brighton and Hove Albion.
The big question is now, what is the strongest starting XI available to Eddie Howe ahead of that Everton game at St James’ Park on Tuesday?
Here’s what we think, going off the formation Howe has fielded in recent games:
1. GK: Martin Dubravka
Newcastle were linked to Manchester United’s Dean Henderson and Arsenal’s Bernd Leno in January but Dubravka remains the club’s number one. No one can have too many complaints about that, with the Slovakian set to play another key role in the battle against relegation. Photo: Stu Forster
2. RB: Kieran Trippier
Newcastle’s first and best signing of January? The England international has settled straight into life on Tyneside with three appearances already under his belt. Not only does he bring quality and experience on the pitch, but he also provides a lot of leadership off it. Photo: Stu Forster
3. CB: Fabian Schar
Schar, briefly linked with Bordeaux in January, is out of contract at the end of the season but the Switzerland international has already proven he’s focused on the job at hand. Schar’s ability on the ball is highly favoured by Eddie Howe. Photo: Stu Forster
4. CB: Dan Burn
No pressure… with boyhood fan Burn brought in as the man to help shore up a leaky Newcastle defence that has conceded 43 Premier League goals this season. At 6ft7, the Blyth-born defender will add height and fight to United’s backline. Photo: JUSTIN SETTERFIELD
