"Newcastle United will never be defeated". Those were the words of Bruno Guimaraes after the Magpies' European exit at the hands of AC Milan.
Leading 1-0 at half-time courtesy of Joelinton's opener, Guimaraes and his teammates had one foot in the last 16 of the Champions League until the game flipped on its head in the second half.

Hide AdParis Saint-Germain played out a 1-1 draw in Borussia Dortmund, meaning if the Magpies held out, second place in Group F was theirs. However, Christian Pulisic's equaliser saw United drop to third - a Europa League spot - before Samuel Chukwueze's 84th-minute winner condemned the Magpies to the bottom.
In the space of half an hour, Eddie Howe's side went from the Champions League to the Europa League to ending up with no European football at all. It was a dramatic, emotionally charged evening at St James' Park that Guimaraes found the outcome hard to accept.
Posting on X after the match, the Brazilian said: "It's hard to accept what happened today! I think we deserved more. I am very proud of our team and our fans. We have to go on with our heads held high! Nobody said it would be easy!"

But unfortunately for Newcastle, there is nothing they can do now other than focus on the Premier League clash at home to Fulham on Saturday.
