Newcastle United suffered their second consecutive Premier League defeat at the hands of 10-man Everton.
In a game lacking any kind of quality, Eddie Howe’s men left Goodison Park empty-handed by their own wrongdoing.
With the scoreline at 0-0, the Toffees were reduced to 10-men on 83 minutes when midfielder Allan was shown a red card following a VAR review.
Craig Pawson initially issued a yellow card before a check at the monitor saw the referee overturn his decision to a red for a late challenge on Allan Saint-Maximin.
The Magpies, however, failed to hold on for at least a point as Alex Iwobi struck in the ninth minute of stoppage time.
There was a long delay at Goodison Park after the interval after a fan cuffed themselves to the post at the Gwladys Street End.
Here, our writer Jordan Cronin dishes out his Newcastle player ratings:
1. Martin Dubravka - 7
Produced a top save on 77 minutes to prevent Anthony Gordon from breaking the deadlock. Otherwise, it was a fairly quiet evening for United’s number one. | Getty Images
2. Emil Krafth - 5
Krafth was targeted by Everton, and the right side is where they enjoyed most of their attacks. Was booked on 76 minutes, conceding a dangerous free-kick, which Gordon fortunately struck wide. Limped off in the closing stages.

3. Fabian Schar - 6
Captained Newcastle at Goodison Park. Attempted the spectacular midway through the first-half with a free-kick from his own half as Begovic backtracked to gather. Photo: Stu Forster
4. Dan Burn - 6
Fought for everything in the colours of his boyhood club but ended up on the losing side. Could he have done better for Iwobi’s winner? The Everton man seemed to walk into the penalty box. | Getty Images
