Former Newcastle United star Mohammed Sangare endured an embarrassing blunder as he missed a pre-season friendly after turning up at the wrong stadium.

The 24-year-old Liberian is a product of the Magpies youth academy and signed for Scottish side Livingston from Accrington Stanley last month. The midfielder was due to get some important pre-season game time in a friendly with Queen's Park but the mishap meant that wasn't to be.

Livingston boss David Martindale admitted that Sangare was due to start the fixture but believed the match was taking place at his side's Tony Macaroni Arena rather than Lesser Hampden.

The two grounds are a 30-mile, or 45-minute drive from one another, and the error left Martindale scolding his new signing. He said: "He's not the brightest! The players were meant to turn up at Hampden at 6:15 pm, but he turned up at our stadium.

"I spoke to him about attention to detail. You are now playing top tier in Scotland and you need to put more thought process into everything you are doing away from the club. It's not just picking up points.

"He was going to be starting against Queen's Park, but he got there half an hour late, an hour before the game. He never started, never got on the park and played with the B team on Tuesday night instead.

"It's now a clean slate for him and we move on. There is a wee bit of an adaptation period coming from League One. To be fair I doubt he ever drove to a game there.

"I can see why it went wrong, but he needs to pay more attention. It's not the first time I've had it to be fair, it happens most years. It was Dylan Bahamboula last year and funnily enough, he was the one phoning Mo saying, 'Where are you?'."

Livingston are next in action on Saturday, July 15 in the Viaplay Cup against Brechin City. That fixture is away at Glebe Park, 90 miles from Livingston, so Sangare will be hoping to programme his SatNav a bit better this time around.
