Nottingham Forest are set to bolster their attack line with the club record signing of Union Berlin striker Taiwo Awoniyi.

Newcastle United host the newly-promoted Premier League side on the opening day of the season as Forest get down to business in the summer transfer window.

Indeed, former Liverpool striker Awoniyi is undergoing his medical ahead of his switch after the City Ground club met his £17.5million release clause.

The Reds are set to pocket around £1.75m from the transfer after negotiating a sell-on clause when he was sold to Union Berlin last year.

The 24-year-old is poised to follow Dean Henderson to Nottingham, who is joining on a season-long loan deal from Manchester United.

The Magpies themselves will also field new faces by the time Forest visit St James’ Park on Saturday, August 6.

England goalkeeper Nick Pope became United’s second senior signing of the summer on Thursday for an undisclosed fee from Burnley.

He joined Matt Targett on Tyneside, who completed a permanent move from Aston Villa after his successful loan spell last season.

Eddie Howe is keen to sign a central defender, wide forward and a striker before the transfer window shuts at 11pm on September 1.
