Newcastle United have been tipped to make a move for the sixth most expensive English footballer of all-time in a blockbuster deal which would hugely “benefit” the player.

Newcastle have added a number of exciting names to their team in the summer window including Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes, while Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento are two huge prospects who are tipped for international stardom.

The Magpies are blessed with a number of attacking options in the wide areas with the likes of Miguel Almiron, Jacob Murphy, Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes all battling it out for a starting spot.

But the Toon Army have been tipped to make their biggest signing yet in that area in former Borussia Dortmund man Jadon Sancho. The 23-year-old winger arrived at Manchester United in the summer of 2021 for a huge fee of £73m.

The England international was widely regarded as one of the best young wingers in world football and he scored an impressive 50 goals in 137 appearances for Dortmund, whilst also providing 57 assists.

His best individual campaign came in the 2018/19 season when he scored 17 goals whilst helping his team to the DFB-Pokal cup title. Sancho was expected to be a focal point of Man Utd’s attack for the next decade, but he has struggled to emulate his form in England and has managed just nine Premier League goals across two seasons.

The winger was not included in the team for Man Utd’s most recent loss at Arsenal and manager Erik Ten Hag claimed that his performances in training had been below the standard needed to warrant a place in the squad.

This prompted backlash from Sancho on twitter who claimed he had been “scapegoated for a long time.” Sancho’s feud with Ten Hag remains unresolved and recent news from Old Trafford has confirmed that the player will be taking part in a “personal training programme away from the first team.”

This has led to great speculation of the player leaving Man Utd in January as he seeks to revive his career elsewhere. One potential option for the player could well be a move to St James Park and Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope claims it is a move which would “benefit” the player due to Howe’s ability to develop players.

Hope said: “Newcastle’s model is signing players on the way up. Players they can identify as value and then develop. Sancho, with wages likely to break Newcastle’s structure, would seem unlikely in that regard.

“But would the player benefit from a coach such as Howe? Absolutely. Is it a project Newcastle will be considering? He will certainly be on their radar. Let’s see.”

Sancho is under contract at Man Utd until the summer of 2026 and a deal for the player would likely exceed the £63m price tag paid for Alexander Isak back in August 2022.
