French giants Paris Saint-Germain have landed on Tyneside ahead of their Champions League clash with Newcastle United.

The visitors will arrive looking to move on from what has been an underwhelming start to their season and they sit in fifth place in the Ligue 1 table after winning just three of their first seven games of the campaign. Despite their struggle to find momentum, Luis Enrique’s side are only two points adrift of current leaders Monaco and will have high hopes they can claim the title for a third consecutive season.

But how are PSG shaping up ahead of their eagerly anticipated visit to St James Park?

How did PSG fare in their first game of this season’s Champions League?

The reigning Ligue 1 champions got their group stage campaign underway with a home win against Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.

After a goalless first-half, it was key man Kylian Mbappe that opened the scoring within minutes of the restart when he scored from the penalty spot after Nicklas Sule was ruled to have handled a shot from the influential forward.

Full-back Achraf Hakimi doubled the tally with a neat finish just before the hour-mark and that was enough to kill off any hopes Dortmund had of mounting a comeback at the Parc des Prince.

What has Luis Enrique said about Newcastle?

Speaking after Saturday’s draw with Clermont, the Spanish boss said: “We knew it was going to be a tough game.

“The Clermont team were very motivated and wanted to win the game. Maybe we lacked a bit of intensity, but I also think it was very difficult to play because of the state of the pitch. The ball was bouncing around and it was especially difficult to control. That obviously reduced our attacking possibilities but, despite that, we still had control of the game.

“The final result is a draw, but we could also have lost. Football is a very unpredictable sport. I looked at the statistics and we had 10 shots on target and a total of 21 shots. I think that should be enough to win the game, but that’s not what happened. Now we have to prepare for the Champions League match away against Newcastle and we really want to win the game to consolidate our position in the group.”

What is the latest injury news from PSG?

The main talking point for the Ligue 1 champions has been the fitness of Kylian Mbappe after he suffered an ankle injury in their recent win against Marseille. The World Cup winner has travelled to Tyneside after playing the entire 90 minutes of Saturday’s draw with Clermont and is expected to start at St James Park.

Highly-rated full-back Nuno Mendes is out of action until the new year with a hamstring injury and both Marco Asensio and Presnel Kimpembe will also miss out with respective foot and heel injuries.

Midfielder Manuel Ugarte and defender Lucas Hernandez remained as unused substitutes in Saturday’s draw with Clermont and both players are expected to return to Enrique’s starting eleven on Wednesday night.

PSG predicted starting lineup

Donnarumma; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Skriniar, Hernandez; Vitinha, Ugarte, Zaire-Emery; Dembele, Kolo Muani, Mbappe
