Tottenham Hotspur have beaten Barcelona to the signing of Swedish wonderkid Lucas Bergvall.

The 18-year-old sensation has caught the eye whilst playing for Djurgardens. Bergvall has gone to make 41 senior appearances and recently made his international debut after coming on as a substitute in a 2-1 win over Estonia in January.

Bergvall had a trial at Manchester United a couple of years ago and Swedish outlet Expressen claimed earlier this month that Newcastle United had made an offer for the midfielder.

In the end, the decision boiled down to either Barcelona or Spurs, and Bergvall has chosen the latter. He is in North London today to undergo his medical and complete the remaining formalities ahead of officially joining in the summer.

The deal will reportedly be worth around £8.5million with Bergvall poised to sign a five-year contract.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano posted on X: "It’s Lucas Bergvall day at Spurs today as he arrives in London for medical tests and contract signing. 2006 born talent turns 18 today and he’s now allowed to sign the professional contract, valid from July. Deal hijacked at final stages as he was close to joining Barca."

Newcastle signed their own exciting prospect on deadline day with 18-year-old midfielder Alfie Harrison arriving from Manchester City for an undisclosed fee.

Harrison has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract. It's understood the deal could rise to £3.5m in adds on. City also hold a significant 40 per-cent sell-on clause.

"The size of the club and what it has got going for it is massive for me," said Harrison. "It's got a huge, passionate fanbase and I'm looking to really push on with my career now.

"If I was a kid now, looking at me signing for Newcastle United, it's what dreams are made of. I'm really looking forward to what is coming and how I can progress in the coming years.

"I'm an effective player who can add goals and assists. I really like to create stuff but, on the other side, I'd also say I'm a very passionate player who always wants to win."

Harrison, who joined Man City's academy aged nine, has scored eight times in eight Premier League under-18s games and made his under-21s debut in December.
