Newcastle United will need to prepare themselves for some heavy competition to sign James Maddison this summer as Tottenham Hotspur are now said to be in the running. New Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou is ready to get stuck in during the transfer window, with a big shake-up of first team personnel on the cards.

A report from The Mirror claims that Spurs are ready to rival the Magpies for Maddison’s signature after he faced relegation with Leicester City last month. The England international, like several others at the King Power Stadium, is looking for a move back to top flight football this summer.

The Foxes have accepted the fact they will lose some key players ahead of the new season, with Maddison being one of the main names on the list. But despite the fact he has just one year left on his current contract, the club are not willing to sell their star midfielder for less than £40 million.

Newcastle have been interested in Maddison for a while now and even put in two bids for his signature last year. They are now the front-runners and tipped favourites to sign him this summer but of course, a lot of clubs are interested in him and Spurs could pose quite the threat.

Eddie Howe and his Magpies will be feeling confident off the back of their impressive 2022/23 season, which saw them qualify for Champions League football for the first time in 20 years. Before they can look to build on their strong run of form and bring European nights back to St James’ Park, they must tackle the transfer window.

Newcastle have been linked with a number of new signings already and fans are waiting eagerly for some positive transfer news. Any new acquisitions this window will join the likes of big money signings Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon and Sven Botman who arrived during the 2022/23 season.
