Eddie Howe’s side make the long trip to East Anglia on the back of consecutive home wins against Leicester City and Brentford. This is Newcastle’s first visit to Portman Road in seven years and their first in the top-flight since 2001.
Stuart Attwell has been appointed as referee for his first fixture involving the Magpies this season. The last time he officiated a Newcastle game was rather controversial.

Attwell was the man in the middle for the 3-1 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion and the 8-0 victory at Sheffield United, though will be better remembered for United’s 1-0 win over Arsenal in November last year.
Anthony Gordon’s 64th-minute winner was subjected to three separate VAR. The first check was to see if Joe Willock had kept the ball in play in the build-up, the second was whether Joelinton had fouled Gabriel and the third was for an offside on Gordon
Neither referee Attwell or VAR official Andy Madley could find any conclusive evidence to disallow the goal, infamously leading to Mikel Arteta’s “absolute disgrace” rant.
In a heated affair, both teams were also fortunate to keep 11 men on the pitch after Kai Havertz flew into a tackle on Sean Longstaff before Bruno Guimaraes struck Jorginho with his forearm.
Attwell will be assisted by Con Hatzidakis and Nat Aspinall with John Busby as the fourth official. On VAR duty are John Brookes and Craig Taylor.
