The Premier League have confirmed the match officials for Manchester United versus Newcastle United on Monday night (kick-off 8pm).

Newcastle haven’t won a league game at Old Trafford in 11 years but will arrive full of confidence having won their last three league matches by an aggregate score of 11-0.

Eddie Howe’s side have moved up to fifth in the table, eight places and seven points above the Red Devils, who have won just two of their seven league games under new manager Ruben Amorim.

Overseeing the fixture is Simon Hooper, whose two games involving Newcastle this campaign have ended in a 2-1 defeat at Chelsea and a 4-2 loss away to Brentford. Meanwhile, this is the first Hooper has refereed Man United in 2024-25.

Hooper will be assisted by Adrian Holmes and Simon Long while Andy Madley is the fourth official. On VAR duty are Paul Tierney and Con Hatzidakis.

Monday’s clash at Old Trafford comes after an afternoon of controversy at St James’ Park as Newcastle beat 10-man Aston Villa 3-0 on Boxing Day.

Referee Anthony Taylor sent off Villa striker Jhon Duran in the 32nd minute for a stamp of Fabian Schar’s back before handing out red cards to Magpies’ assistant coach Jason Tindall and Villa analyst Victor Manas after a ‘20-man melee’ in the tunnel at half-time.

The FA is investigating the incident, which could lead to further punishment. Regardless of the outcome, Tindall will serve a touchline ban at Old Trafford.

Man United, meanwhile, saw Bruno Fernandes sent off for two bookable offences in their Boxing Day defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Amorim’s side will also be without midfielder Manuel Ugarte after he picked up his fifth yellow card of the season last time out.
