Newcastle United have reportedly rejected a £11million bid for the defender.

Lloyd Kelly is part of Newcastle United’s matchday squad for the Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers tonight (kick-off 7:30pm).

The 25-year-old is subject to interest from Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce, who reportedly had an £11million bid turned down by the Magpies on Tuesday night. It remains to be seen if the Turkish giants return offer with an improved offer.

In the meantime, it is business as usual for Kelly. In the last few moments, the versatile defender has been pictured arriving at St James’ Park, where he is set to be named on the bench as United look to claim a ninth consecutive victory to move into the top four of the Premier League table.

While Kelly is expected to remain on Tyneside beyond January, his lack of game time since arriving on a free transfer from AFC Bournemouth in the summer has made supporters question if the club would indeed cash in.

Kelly has made just 13 appearances for Newcastle this season, starting just four of 20 Premier League matches, his last being the 2-0 defeat at home to West Ham United in November.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has regularly turned to Fabian Schar and Dan Burn as his centre-back pairing this campaign, while Lewis Hall has nailed down the left-back spot. And with key player Sven Botman and Matt Targett also fit again following their respective injuries, Kelly faces increased competition for a place in the team.

Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) places extra importance on the need for trading but Fenerbahce’s opening offer is not deemed high enough.
