Newcastle United will be without Anthony Gordon for this evening's Premier League clash versus Everton at St James' Park (kick-off 7:30pm).

The 10-goal Magpies star won two penalties and set up Harvey Barnes' winner during Saturday's 4-3 comeback win against West Ham United. However, he was sent off in stoppage time after receiving a second yellow card for kicking the ball away.

Reflecting on becoming the first Magpies player to be shown a red card this campaign, Gordon said: "I tapped the ball away. How far you want to look into that... it's incredible really.

"I don't want to complain about referees because they have a job to do. They are the rules so he's sticking to the rules and laws of the game but it's ridiculous really.

“To get sent off for tapping a ball five yards. To be honest with you I only think he booked me because he didn't know he'd booked me before. That's not good enough, to be honest with you."

As per Premier League rules, two yellow cards in one game results in a red card and an automatic one-match ban. Although Gordon will miss the visit of his former club tonight, he may actually benefit him in the coming weeks.

Had the England international not been sent off, he would have ended the game on nine yellow cards for the season and therefore sat one more caution away from serving a two-match ban. Instead, Gordon remains on eight.

Should the winger avoid a yellow card against Fulham on his return this Saturday then he will avoid a two-match yellow card suspension entirely. Any player who receives 10 bookings up to and including a club's 32nd game of the Premier League season will receive a two-match suspension.

One Newcastle player who is on nine yellow cards is Bruno Guimaraes, and he must avoid punishment in the next fixtures against Everton, Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur in order to avoid a two-game suspension.

Incredibly, the Brazilian has gone nine consecutive Premier League matches without being cautioned. He has been on nine bookings since the 3-2 to Manchester City on January 13.
