Although the Foxes were relegated to the Championship, the 25-year-old finished top goalscorer with 13 goals in 34 league appearances. He scored during their final win against West Ham and was a second half at St James’ Park which saw Newcastle secure Champions League football last Monday night.

With Barnes keen to continue plying his trade in England’s top-flight, the former West Bromwich Albion loanee is interested in joining Howe’s side - according to Football Insider. He is understood to be valued at £40million with two years remaining on his contract.

Maddison is also said to be open to joining United. The England international has been a long-term target for Howe having seen two bids rejected last summer.

There had been doubts over whether or not Maddison is genuinely interested in the move but according to the i Paper, he is having discussed Newcastle with Kieran Trippier on England duty.

Leicester have recently valued Maddison, who has attracted interest from Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, at £50million but could accept a reduced asking price following relegation.
