One of Newcastle United summer targets is expected to complete a controverial transfer.

Wolfsburg midfielder Felix Nmecha is poised to complete a move to Borussia Dortmund, despite objections from supporters.

The former Manchester City academy graduate has come under serious scrutiny after allegedly sharing homophobic and transphobic content on social media.

Dortmund fanzine Schwatzgelb.de recently published a comment piece questioning the potential transfer. Meanwhile, a banner displaying the words “zero tolerance for intolerance! Values are non-negotiable” was spotted near the Signal Iduna Park this morning.

Despite fans voicing their displeasure and concern, German newspaper WAZ claims Dortmund are ready to push through a €25million {£21m} deal for the Nmecha.

It’s claimed BVB president Reinhold Lunow has held talks with Nmecha about the allegations and believes he shares the German side’s “basic code of values”, which states “we will always work for social success. By this, we mean club life and a society without racism, anti-Semitism, LGBTI+ hostility, sexism, violence and discrimination.”

Nmecha is viewed as a strong replacement for Jude Bellingham, who joined Real Madrid last week. Although there is interest from Premier League clubs, and a final transfer fee is still to be agreed, WAZ report “it would be a surprise if the move still fails”.

Newcastle United had considered a move for the 22-year-old as a cheaper midfield amid noises he was available for around the £15m mark. Manchester United has also reportedly shown interest.

Nmecha came through the youth ranks at Man City before joining Wolfsburg in 2021. He has made 50 appearances for The Wolves as well established himself as a Germany international.

Eddie Howe is hopeful of signing another midfielder once Sandro Tonali’s £60million move from AC Milan becomes official this week. United retain an interest in Leicester City star James Maddison, while talks have taken place with RB Leipzig regarding Dominik Szoboszlai.
