Newcastle United have enjoyed a strong transfer window so far as they look to tighten their squad and keep up with the others who they battled for a top four finish in the Premier League last season.

They’ll be looking for a similar result this time, if not better, and there’s still time left before deadline day for Eddie Howe to add some last minute purchases. Here are some of the latest updates for the Magpies as we near the end of an exciting summer.

Pundit fears Newcastle target is ‘in a bit of trouble’

Danish commentator and former footballer Jesper Thygesen believes Newcastle target Oscar Schwartau could be in a spot of bother when it comes to a potential move this summer. The Brondby youngster is an exciting talent but hasn’t been receiving enough opportunities to prove himself lately and Thygesen has weighed in on this situation and believes it could snub him of a chance to like up with the Toon.

“The fact that there won’t be more playing time for [the youngsters], I think, is a huge problem for Brondby and right now for Schwartau,” he told Tipsbladet. “It looks as if he is in a bit of trouble.

“It may well be that he is not good enough. That must be the most likely. [Maybe] Schwartau is not skilled enough, and that he must hurry up and improve. And when you read that Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Newcastle and Dortmund were interested [in Schwartau] it does not promote the possibility of ending up at such a club.”

11-goal midfield target has joined Saudi club

The Saudi Pro League continues to collect blockbuster signings following the announcement from Fabrizio Romano that Newcastle target Gabri Veiga has joined Al-Ahli, the same club as Allan Saint-Maximin.

The Magpies had been heavily linked to the midfielder who notched 11 goals and four assists across all competitions last season. Veiga was often mentioned on the Newcastle rumour mill and reports earlier in the summer claimed Howe’s side were close to claiming his signature. But now, he’s ready to try his hand in Saudi Arabia after both he and Celta Vigo said yes to the offer.
