Representatives of Newcastle United, AC Milan and Sandro Tonali are set to meet later today ahead of agreeing a £60million transfer.

Newcastle United’s £60million deal for Sandro Tonali is close to being made official - with a “final meeting” scheduled to take place later this afternoon.

Magpies’ sporting director Dan Ashworth has been in Italy since Wednesday. A fee with AC Milan is all-but agreed but discussions are continuing around the structure of the deal.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, that is likely to be settled later today (Thursday) when Newcastle, Milan and Tonali’s representatives meet to “get an agreement sealed and signed”.

Romano also claims “documents have already been sent to Tonali’s camp”.

The 23-year-old is understood to have agreed personal terms on a six-year contract worth £6.8m plus £1.7m bonuses per season - which would make him the United’s highest earner.

Tonali won’t be present at the final meeting as he prepares to lead out Italy under-21s in their European Championships Group D opener against France tonight (kick-off 7:45pm).

The midfielder is currently based in Georgia, and he’ll soon be joined by Magpies’ officials to undergo the first part of his medical.

Indeed, the Magpies did the same in January 2022 when head of recruitment Steve Nickson travelled to Brazil to complete the £40m signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon.

Guimaraes underwent medical tests and put pen to paper on a five-year contract before being unveiled to the media on Tyneside after returning from international duty.
