All parties, including representatives of AC Milan and Tonali, met at the Palazzo Parigi Hotel this afternoon to thrash out a full agreement.

And it’s understood that’s now been reached, with the transfer now subject to Tonali passing his medical and putting pen to paper on a contract.

After concluding the meeting in Milan, Nickson was pictured leaving alongside Tonali’s agent Giuseppe Riso, who, as quoted by Gianluca Di Marzio, said “we are leaving [for Romania]” when asked if the transfer to Newcastle was completed.

Nickson is travelling with Riso and Tonali’s other agent Marianna Mecacci to Romania, where the 23-year-old is currently based for the under-21s European Championships.

Tonali is in action against France in his nation’s Group D opener tonight (kick-off 7:45pm) before he’ll begin the final stages of his move to St James’ Park.

The midfielder will undergo the first part of his medical, similar to how Bruno Guimaraes did ahead of his switch to Newcastle in January 2022.

Nickson too flew to Brazil whilst Guimaraes was on international duty to finalise a £40m transfer from Ligue 1 side Lyon.

It’s widely reported that Tonali has already agreed personal terms on a six-year contract worth £6.8m plus £1.7m bonuses per season - which will make him United’s highest-paid player.

Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe identified Tonali as his top target to fulfill the No.6 position after discussions with Inter Milan over Nicolo Barella stalled.

Tonali, a boyhood AC Milan fan, has made 130 appearances since joining from Brescia in 2020, where he helped them to their first Scudetto in 11 years and last season reach the semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time since 2007.
