Sela will again light up the sky of Tyneside on Saturday night with a show to celebrate Newcastle United, its fan and the city.

A giant ‘BMX for sale’ meme was projected on the side of the Baltic on Tuesday night which was quickly shared across on social media. It is near-identical to the infamous banner first displayed at Newcastle’s UEFA Cup match away to Monaco in 1997 but with one major difference… the local telephone number!

Instead of being the old NUFC Box Office number, calling 0191 486 2200 connects you to a voice message inviting callers to come down to the Quayside this Saturday night (June 8) at 10pm.

The message – voiced by a Geordie – says: “Hello there. We don’t have that BMX for sale any more unfortunately… But what we do have is an invitation for you to come to the Quayside this Saturday night.

“Sela, Newcastle United’s sponsor, would LOVE IT if you could assemble opposite the Baltic, where they are putting on special shows to celebrate our club, our city and our fans, after 10pm. You don’t want to miss out! See you on Saturday.”

Sela is a live events and entertainments company whose tagline is ‘Spectacular Everyday’. The Saudi Arabia-based company became Newcastle’s front-of-shirt sponsor in June last year for a reported £25million-per-season.

Many will recall the incredible drone show they put on above St James’ Park in October before Newcastle hosted Paris Saint-Germain in their first Champions League match for 20 years. The eight-minute-long show saw United's iconic Magpie mascot soar across the skies before transitioning into the famous black and white team shirts adorned with the names of England defender Kieran Trippier, Brazil international Bruno Guimarães and Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali.

Following Sela’s support for the Deaf community through its recent Unsilence The Crowd initiative – where unique ‘haptic’ shirts allowed deaf fans to ‘feel’ the sound of the crowd for the first time – the 0191 486 2200 number also sends an automatic written message with Saturday’s details in response to WhatsApp messages.
