Newcastle United supporters have slammed Chelsea for the pricing of away tickets for the Carabao Cup quarter-final in December as ticket information was released today.

The Magpies face the Blues in the Premier League at St James' Park after the international break but will then travel to Stamford Bridge on December 19 as a hectic festive fixture schedule gathers pace. The knockout game comes after the Magpies beat Manchester United in the Round of 16 and Chelsea triumphed over Blackburn Rovers.

Newcastle United Supporters' Club have accused Chelsea of 'taking advantage of our loyal support' by charging £39 and have called on the Carabao Cup to introduce a ticket price cap. The Premier League currently has a £30 away ticket price cap, but this does not exist for Carabao Cup fixtures.

The Newcastle United Supporters Trust had previously criticised Manchester United for charging £39 for tickets to the previous Carabao Cup fixture, which was reported to be £9 more than the price Crystal Palace fans had paid in the previous round.

“£39 for @ManUtd away in the @Carabao_Cup is scandalous and makes a mockery of the £30 @premierleague away ticket price cap,” NUST posted on X. “Add in a ridiculous kick off time - match-going fans taken for granted time and time again.”

The late, midweek kick-offs of the cup games often mean supporters must use precious holiday days and fork out on trains and hotels in order to follow their side across the country - which the Newcastle United faithful do en masse.

The Magpies are set to have a strong turnout at Stamford Bridge for the cup fixture. A post on the Chelsea website read: "Newcastle United have taken their full allocation in the Shed End for this fixture meaning we have to displace season ticket holders in this area.

"Therefore, displaced season ticket holders can purchase any of the available seats not taken by a season ticket holder during the reservation period. Alternatively, season ticket holders who have been moved from the Shed End can purchase up to 10 tickets on the movers’ day to ensure you sit with fellow supporters who are also displaced. More availability will be available on the movers’ day, so we recommend season ticket holders displaced purchase on this day."
