Newcastle United will once again be under the restrictions of Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) during this summer’s transfer window.
By this point, you can forgive anyone who is fed up of hearing about PSR or FFP (Financial Fair Play). Pressures to comply with the rules forced the Magpies to not spend a single penny in January. And while it’s currently unclear as to how United will be impacted this summer, you get the feeling outgoings are key.
That doesn’t mean sell Bruno Guimaraes or Alexander Isak by the way... more so that Newcastle have several players on sizable wages, despite not currently being at the club, i.e the likes of Ryan Fraser, Jamal Lewis, Jeff Hendrick and Isaac Hayden.
But of course - as is the case with any season - Newcastle boss Eddie Howe will assess his current squad fully in the coming weeks and establish plans ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.
With some players out-of-contract and others either out-of-favour or the subject of transfer speculation, NewcastleWorld takes a look at the players that will leave Newcastle (as it stands) and those that could:
1. Matt Targett - could leave
Targett has started just seven Premier League matches since joining permanently from Aston Villa in the summer of 2022. In the previous four months when he was on loan, the left-back started 16 games.
2. Mark Gillespie - out-of-contract
Gillespie is fourth choice goalkeeper at Newcastle having last played a competitive game almost four years ago.
3. Jeff Hendrick - will leave
Hendrick is out-of-contract this summer. Is currently on loan at Sheffield Wednesday.
4. Paul Dummett - out-of-contract
Dummett has made 211 appearances for Newcastle since making his debut in 2013, however only 10 of those have come in the previous three seasons. A popular figure behind the scenes but is way down the pecking order.
