Newcastle United are without Fabian Schar for this afternoon’s Premier League clash against Manchester City (kick-off 12:30pm).

The Switzerland international clashed heads with Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez in the first-half of the Carabao Cup final defeat last Sunday.

Schar managed to continue, and play a full 90 minutes, but misses out at the Etihad Stadium due to a slight concussion.

If a player suffers a concussion, Premier League rules state they should undergo a period of rest from all physical and mental activity - usually for six days - while being monitored closely by the club’s medical staff.

Club captain Jamaal Lascelles comes into the starting XI to partner Sven Botman in defence. Lascelles last started a Premier League game in August - a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.
