The staggering Newcastle United statistic that raises doubt ahead of Premier League fixture release
The Magpies will learn how their 2022/23 season will pan out later this week.
The Premier League have confirmed their fixtures for the 2022/23 season will be released at 9am on Thursday morning as Newcastle United supporters turn their attention towards what should be an intriguing season on Tyneside.
Several new signings are expected to take their place in Eddie Howe’s squad by the time the Magpies get the new campaign underway in August.
And no matter what Magpies side is fielded that day, they will be hoping to improve on what is a dismal record on the opening day of the Premier League season.
In United’s defence, ten of their last 12 opposition on the opening day of the Premier League season have finished in the top six of the division during the previous campaign and eight of those sides have qualified for the Champions League.
That has left the Magpies with just two wins and three draws in their last dozen opening day games and the record hardly improves if you go further back to the turn of the millennium with United claming just five wins out of 20 fixtures on the first day of a Premier League season.
NewcastleWorld takes a look back at some memorable meetings as we await news of next season’s fixtures.
