Southampton will be without three of their first-team players for the visit of Newcastle United.

Federico Fernandez, Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier are currently sidelined for the Magpies - and the Saints have injuries on their own.

Starting with Nathan Tella, the right midfielder has been absent since mid-January with a groin injury.

The 22-year-old has returned to training this week but Ralph Hasenhuttl says he won’t feature against Newcastle.

Central defender Lyanco, a summer signing from Torino, remains out with a hamstring problem and isn’t expected to return until April.

Alex McCarthy is out with the same problem with former Newcastle goalkeeper Fraser Forster set to deputise between the sticks.

In better news for the Saints, star defender Mohammed Salisu could return to Hasenhuttl’s backline.

Hasenhuttl admitted after the 4-0 defeat at Aston Villa on Saturday that his side missed Salisu, who was tracked by Newcastle in January.

Salisu has trained this week with the Saints set to make a late decision over the Ghanaian’s fitness.

Newcastle are looking to extend their unbeaten Premier League run to nine matches and further boost their survival hopes.
