The Magpies have been linked with a highly ambitious move for the striker in recent months.

Newcastle United and Manchester United have been given an update on the future of one ambitious transfer target after they were linked with moves for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

The Nigerian international has been integral to his side’s push for a historic Serie A title win after scoring 21 goals in 26 league appearances ahead of Thursday night’s visit to Udinese. Luciano Spalletti’s side travelled to the Dacia Arena knowing avoiding defeat would allow them to claim their first Scudetto since the days of Diego Maradona.

Just as he has throughout a memorable campaign, Osimhen came to the fore once again as his second-half equaliser cancelled out an early goal from Sandi Lovic to ensure his side became Napoli’s first title winners since 1990. The celebrations in Naples have captured plenty of attention on social media in the aftermath of their historic triumph and so has Osimhen’s future as the prolific frontman has continually been linked with a move away from the Studio Diego Armando Maradona.

However, the 23-times capped Nigeria star has refused to discuss any thoughts of his next move as he paid tribute to the man that led his side to their title triumph.

He told Sky Italia: “I’m thrilled with this victory. I’m happy for me, for the team and for the fans. I can’t wait to come back in Naples to embrace our fans, even though tonight I already felt the warmth of the people. I’m happy for all the Neapolitans. I scored the Scudetto goal, it’s true, but anyone else could have scored it.

“I feel like a leader and I never give up. Future? Now I want to enjoy this historic moment, this is not the time to think about my future. Spalletti is a great coach, he asks us a lot but he is like a father to all of us. He always manages to motivate us and he deserves this title.”
