Tottenham Hotspur expect Ben Davies to be fit to face Newcastle United, despite withdrawing from international duty.

The 28-year-old was a part of the Wales team that beat Austria 2-1 last Thursday to book their place in the World Cup play-off final.

However, with Davies nursing a knock, the defender missed last night’s friendly draw with Czech Republic and returned to North London for treatment.

And according to The Athletic, the former Swansea City man is likely to recover for the visit of Eddie Howe’s side on Sunday afternoon.

Losing Davies would have a blow for Antonio Conte, who has named him in his starting XI for the last 13 consecutive matches.

A left-back by trade, the Welshman has been used in a three-man central defence under Conte with the Italian operating with wing-backs.

Spurs, chasing the Champions League places, have picked up 15 points from a possible 18.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have suffered back-to-back defeats, though sit nine points above the Premier League relegation zone.

In the earlier meeting between the two clubs - Newcastle’s first game after the Saudi Arabian-backed takeover - Spurs ran out 3-2 winners at St James’ Park.

In the two games United have played at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, they’ve stayed unbeaten, winning one and drawing the other.
